Condition of the products
Most of the wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses or other products are in perfect condition. Should there be any blemishes or faults, these will have been outlined in the product description. If it has been possible to pick them up with a camera, photographs of any faults are included. This is usually only applicable to ex-hire gowns.
As wedding dresses fit closely to the body and there is usually no stretch in the fabric, do not rely on the size label as the way we wear our day to day clothes is quite different. Always take your bust, waist and hip measurements with a tape measure and compare these to the measurements given for a particular dress.
Most fabrics are a polyester-blend. The addition of polyester gives fabric durability and reduces wrinkling. Fabric labels will often show 100% polyester. Your wedding gown or bridesmaid dresses will have been cleaned and pressed before despatch. However, although carefully packaged, it is likely that there will be some creasing upon arrival. These may drop out by hanging in a steamy room or by squirting steam from an iron.
Due to the polyester content, all dresses can be hand-washed and ironed where required after the event. Take care with any embellishments which may click the fabric as you are washing. You may wish to remove them first. Dresses with a large quantity of trim may lose some beading during cleaning but these can be secured easily with a stitch or two after drying.
Adjustments and Alterations
Guidance has been given of the amount of adjustment available in a dress. Wedding dresses with corset/laced backs also allow for additional adjustment, either inwards or outwards. Most panels behind the lacing of the dress can be unpicked and moved across slightly should there be any gaps when the dress is laced. Do look at our video guide to lacing a dress.
Due to the nature of the fit required for bridal wear, almost all wedding and bridesmaid dresses will need some type of alteration, including the length.
If you live in the Leeds area, you can make an appointment for a fitting or necessary alterations. Fittings are free but alterations may have to be paid for. For further advice, please contact us.
Length
As most dresses are brand new, the length is standard from the manufacturer. This is usually fine for any bride up to 5’9”. If you are in any doubt, then please contact us. Ex-hire dresses may have already been shortened and this will be stated in the product description, if this is the case.
Underskirts and nets
Many wedding dresses have nets already sewn into the underneath of the dress. If the dress is too flared for you, these can be removed. This will lengthen the gown.
If you want a greater flare or want to keep the dress in a more pronounced A-line shape, then you may want to add a hooped underskirt. Some of the photographs are of brides wearing an additional underskirt. Extra underskirts will shorten the gown as it brings it higher from the floor. If in doubt, please ask. When choosing an underskirt, note that they are varied in amount of flare. If you want an underskirt just to maintain the basic shape of the dress without adding volume, choose a simple one like this, with no nets.
Photographs/Images
Images used are mainly those supplied by the manufacturer. All are as representative as possible of the actual product. Every effort has been made to provide additional images where it would be particularly helpful to you in making your purchase and to try and display the colour accurately online. We cannot guarantee that your device will show the perfect colour of the actual product. Colours can appear differently under different lighting conditions.
